Ryan Trecartin & Lizzie Fitch

29 NOV, 6 & 12 DEC 2018

[Selected by] is a yearly screening program, exclusively dedicated to the audiovisual work of one established artist (or collective), and selected by the artist her- or himself.

The 2018 edition of [Selected by] is dedicated to the idiosyncratic video work of Ryan Trecartin (°1981) and Lizzy Fitch (°1981). An exceptional opportunity to explore this groundbreaking work in depth.

Trecartin and Fitch explore how cameras, social media, and reality TV have changed the way we engage with the world and with one another. Their videos are made up of props, sets and digital effects they invent themselves. There is no plot, and their characters live in a post-gender, post-racial world, taking on various identities, sexualities, genders, and races. A character can be many people at the same time, shot in offbeat environments created by the artists.

Second, these artists are influential representatives of a generation of artists who consider the creation of new worlds and of a set of values in which other people perform important roles in their own artistic practices. They often work with other artists that participate in large collaborations between production assistants, consultants and actors.
