ELITE 17, whose title refers to a peculiar calendar Martin Kippenberger made early 1988 in Vienna, is the pilot edition of an annual recurring group exhibition annex fundraising, selected by four international experts (Koen van den Broek, Lene ter Haar, Eva l’Hoest and Ben Kaufmann). In total, they nominated ten promising artists who, like them, are active in or originating from the Euregion Meuse-Rhine.

With ELITE 17, the contemporary art space KRIEG investigates a new way of generating resources, living its values as an artist-driven non-profit initiative, thus paying attention to fair practices for artists. During the exhibition, each work is available in a transparent way, and profits are divided between the artists and KRIEG.

The selected artists, each one gifted and talented, all play an important role in their proper art scene. However, these networks are often limited by language or country borders – which is not different in the Euregion Meuse-Rhine. By taking this restraint as a starting point, and working with international experts, ELITE 17 announces itself as an exhibition full of discoveries.
